Farming is more than just cultivating crops. In this era, while some wild plant strains still exist, the vast majority of farming is done via hydroponics, cloning banks, and factory farms. These can only be bought or crafted, not scavenged, but produce the highest rewards. In addition, each type of “crop” comes in two types. “O-(crop)s” grow things on the world’s surface, using solar power, and I-farms leech from the energy of the Megastructures to fuel their growth. Of the two, I-(crop)s produce things of greater value.Farms
Farms are a mix of incubators and hydroponic facilities that can provide nutrients to a civilization. Farmed creatures and plants cannot survive out of their curated conditions, and so cannot be found in the wilds of the Megastructures. They can only be bought or manufactured, or have their seeds recycled.Factories
Microfactories can be created from alloy and energetic compound in the manufacturing block workshop. They siphon trace materials from the Megastructure to produce various goods. They do not produce seeds when harvested. To make new ones, more must be crafted.Wild Crops
Wild crops can be fungi, flora, or bacteria, and are scavenged from the Megastructure. These crops are of low value and don’t contribute much to keeping people happy. Some can even be reprocessed into farm crops.Drinks
